While Nick grew up creating things out of wood all the time, he actually trained as a software engineer. It didn’t take long for him to realise that something was lacking from life. Leaving the desk job behind him, he set out on a new career in wood-working, allowing him to use his hands and mind in a creative way. Predominantly working as a wood-turner he creates furniture as well as home and kitchenware out of native hardwoods. Wooden table and floor lamps are currently at the core of his work.
"I am not a trained designer or artist - I just keep things simple and try to let the wood grain be the main focus in my work. My lamps tend to have simple profiles to allow a broad range of shade designs to be used. I work with many different print makers and designers who create beautiful lamp shades to compliment my bases. I feel strongly about preserving my craft in the United Kingdom and I use native hardwoods from local sawmills. Not only does this support local businesses, but it also helps secure the wellbeing of our native trees by reducing imports and funding local forestry projects."
