Helen Taylor makes hand knitted lampshades. The lampshades are very unusual: the flexible knitted cover gives them a curvy, 'organic' shape, and she mounts the lampshade frame within the knitting to give an asymmetric design to the shade.
Helen has recently moved to Hebden Bridge, so she is now one of our local artists.
She finds it important to be in touch with the outdoors; the colours and changing light definitely inspire her to want to create beautiful interior settings too. 'Lighting is a crucial part of making spaces lovely, and often forms a focal point in a room. I want my shades to provide a sculptural shape as part of the lighting scheme.'
